Getting younger looking skin used to mean a face-lift and harsh, ablative laser procedures.  Now with so many advances in skin-care and anti-aging technology, the focus is on procedures with less down-time and those that make you look like a more youthful version of yourself   We also focus heavily on prevention of further damage and overall good-health.

Begin with a good sunscreen, usually one that’s SPF 30 or higher and wear it everyday even if you are just going to the office or running errands.  It can be complexed with a makeup or moisturizer, but most of the best ones have zinc or titanium dioxide in them.  Zinc and titanium dioxide are good sunscreens because they block UVA and UVB rays well and are considered “non-chemical, physical” sunscreens.   Wear a hat or sunglasses when outdoors if you anticipate sun exposure for longer periods, and don’t forget to reapply sunscreen while you’re out.

Try to take good care of yourself overall, meaning eating a diet rich with antioxidants and possibly taking a calcium complexed with Vitamin D, depending on recommendations from the doctor.  If you are a smoker, talk to your doctor about quitting.  Aside from the obvious health hazards of smoking, it can age your skin in very visible ways.

For preventive daily skincare, after cleansing but before sunscreen, apply topical antioxidants, growth factors, and/or peptides.  I prefer using a growth factor complexed with antioxidants, TNS Essential Serum, or for Sensitive Skin, TNS Recovery Complex.   If using the TNS Recovery Complex, a Vitamin C & E Serum can be added then.  Both of these are used twice daily and cover you for the antioxidant and growth factor portion of your regimen.  In the evening, I add a Vitamin A/Retinol/Retinoid (although these must be avoided in pregnancy or nursing).  After these, layer on moisturizer in the evening or moisturizer/sunscreen products in the morning.  All of these products can improve the overall tone and texture of the skin and are great to help prevent further damage.

Then, it’s good to take a look at your skin and see what else bothers you.  If it’s frown lines on the forehead or around the eyes, something like Botox® or Dysport® tend to work best in those areas.  If you notice jowls or folds around the nose and chin, I prefer to use a filler such as Radiesse®, Juvéderm®, Restylane®, or Sculptra®.  For hollow appearing cheeks or temples, Radiesse® or Sculptra® are especially good products, but choice of filler and what you plan to achieve should be discussed thoroughly with the injector.

For brown spots/age spots or redness, we offer photofacial treatment with multiple wavelengths of light using our Sciton BBL™ (Broadband light) application.  Using the same machine, we can lighten brown spots on the hands or chest.  We can augment these results by using a skin-lightening or bleaching cream on the face to get rid of patchy brown pigmentation often caused by pregnancy or hormones in addition to sunlight.   Call us for a free consultation…it’s time to turn back the clock on aging!
